The SCTO is an independent organisation and is based on a joint initiative of the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences.

As of 2017, the SCTO is a research infrastructure of national importance funded by the State Secretariat of Education, Research and Innovation and the Swiss National Science Foundation.

SCTO in IFAPP TODAY

The SCTO presents its network and activities in the October issue of IFAPP TODAY, the global newsletter on pharmaceutical medicine published by the International Federation of Associations of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Pharmaceutical Medicine (IFAPP). Cordula Landgraf, our Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Director, acts as chair of IFAPP’s External Affairs Working Group and is member of the IFAPP Board of Officers.

The long and winding road to better therapies

Will a new, expensive blood thinner work better against heart attacks? Will an exercise programme mitigate the side-effects of a cancer treatment? Whether or not a good idea actually works in practice is something only clinical studies can answer. But fewer and fewer of them are being carried out in Switzerland.
