Core Competencies for Clinical Research Professionals
Gain insight into the skills and knowledge needed for high-quality, ethical clinical research.
The Swiss Clinical Trial Organisation (SCTO) has identified eight core competency domains essential for professionals involved in clinical research in Switzerland. These were adapted from the internationally recognised Joint Task Force for Clinical Trial Competency framework and aligned with Swiss legislation on human research.
These domains apply to all professional levels, from sub-investigator to sponsor-investigator, and correspond to the fundamental, skilled, and advanced competency levels defined by ICH-GCP and national guidelines. Specific adaptations are also available for:
- Human Research Ordinance (HRO) projects
- Clinical Research Coordinators
The competencies were developed by the SCTO Education Platform in collaboration with national partners to support consistent, high standards across all roles in academic clinical research.
