The SCTO is an independent organisation and is based on a joint initiative of the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences.

As of 2017, the SCTO is a research infrastructure of national importance funded by the State Secretariat of Education, Research and Innovation and the Swiss National Science Foundation.

Executive Office

The SCTO Executive Office is responsible for the SCTO's governance, financial and operational management and for proposing and coordinating the SCTO’s strategy and projects, and their alignment within the SCTO Network. In addition to managing communications and collaborating on projects of national importance, the Executive Office team actively supports the management of the SCTO Platforms, the European multicentre projects (the SCTO is the Swiss node for ECRIN ERIC), and SwissPedNet.

The Executive Office team supports the harmonisation of clinical research training and the next generation of clinical researchers, and promotes patient and public involvement (PPI) in clinical research at the national level.
