The SCTO is an independent organisation and is based on a joint initiative of the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences.

As of 2017, the SCTO is a research infrastructure of national importance funded by the State Secretariat of Education, Research and Innovation and the Swiss National Science Foundation.

Guide for Researchers to Address PPI in Clinical Trials

Our Guide for Researchers to Address PPI in Clinical Trials helps researchers identify opportunities to include effective and meaningful PPI in their clinical trials. The SCTO prepared this guide in close collaboration with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

SCTO Remuneration Policy for PPI Activities

The SCTO advocates for financial compensation that is based on the principles of fairness. Financial compensation demonstrates that the contributions patients and the public make to PPI activities are valuable and appreciated. This is why we have developed a policy that can be used by clinical research projects in our network for remunerating patients and members of the public. Our remuneration policy includes the conditions for reimbursing accommodation and travel expenses incurred by PPI contributors.

Participation Request for PPI Activities Template

This template helps researchers as they look for potential PPI contributors for an initiative or a research project. It contains suggestions for descriptions of PPI activities, and it includes examples of the knowledge, experience, and skills that researchers would like PPI contributors to have before participating in a specific initiative of research project. In addition, information about a particular initiative or research project can be added to the template.

The SCTO worked together with a multistakeholder working group to create this template.

Written Agreement for PPI Activities Template

Before PPI contributors engage in PPI activities, it is important to clarify the scope and duration of their engagement, their expected time commitment, and their compensation. Our template provides examples of and suggestions for aspects of a PPI partnership that should be clarified. The template can also be used to set out the basic terms and conditions of a PPI partnership, such as the overall objective of PPI contributions, confidentiality expectations for all parties, and the disclosure of potential conflicts of interests.

Planning, Tracking, and Evaluating PPI Activities Template

This template helps researchers plan and track public and patient involvement (PPI) activities in an initiative or a research project. It also helps researchers evaluate whether those PPI activities had the desired effect.

This Excel template includes a worksheet with a feedback form that can be filled out by PPI contributors (in English, French, German, and Italian). Contributors’ feedback allows researchers to improve how they collaborate with PPI partners.
